Based on a New York Times article, Costs of Living tells the story of two immigrant cab drivers taking opposite shifts off the same medallion. Eng very successfully drives by day, but his partner, Chin isn't so lucky.  What results is high stakes and enormous pressure culminating in a violent outburst that leaves one dead and the other brutalized.  The story is told primarily in flashback through the lens of a faceless interviewer named Mike, who interviews several of the people in and around Eng and Chinís lives, trying to put together what went wrong and why.  Costs of Living is one part American Idiot (the album not the show), one part Golden Child (the show, not the film) and one part The Other Wes Moore with a little Outliers for good measure.
